                Medical Coding is the transformation of healthcare diagnosis on a patient including diagnosis, treatment received, prescription, equipment used into alphanumeric codes for which makes up the crucial role for medical insurance. These codes generated are billed to insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purposes. 

Medical coders uses a set of codes for coding purposes which includes, ICD, CPT and HCPCS.

                       The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is a classification system used by medical professionals to classify and code diagnoses, symptoms, and procedures. The codes are used for tracking and billing purposes, as well as for research and epidemiological studies. 

Examples of ICD-10 codes include:

                     Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes are a set of alphanumeric codes used by physicians and medical coders to describe medical, surgical, and diagnostic services and procedures.

                   Health care Procedural Coding Systems (HCPCS) codes are a set of medical codes used by healthcare providers to submit insurance claims for medical services and procedures. The codes are regulated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
